Matthew 16:18—“And I tell you…on this Rock I will build My Church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.”  ESV

Is a Christ-centered, God-honoring local church as important to you as it is to the Lord Jesus Christ?  Can your commitment to a local church be seen by those who know you best?

There are three essentials necessary in this commitment.

1.  Commitment to a local church must be rooted in biblical convictions.

That is…you are not going to that church because you like their buildings, all your friends go there, you are impressed with their programs, or you like their music.  There is nothing wrong with these things, but they should not be the main reason you are committed to that church.

You should be committed to a church because they are committed to the Word of God and the Gospel, and they will help you and your family grow spiritually.

2.  Commitment to a local church withstands competing claims.

This means your church is a higher priority to you than personal interests, leisure activities, hobbies, education, community activities or careers.

Hebrews 10:25—“Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some…” ESV

To be faithful to the church means you must say no to other things at times.

3.  Our commitment to a local church is demonstrated by actions, not words.

Paul makes clear in Ephesians 4:15-16 that for a church to be successful, each member must do their part.

Actions That Show Commitment

  • Faithful Attendance
  • Genuine Fellowship
  • Growing Up Spiritually
  • Serving Others
  • Reaching Out to the Lost

There is no doubt the Lord Jesus Christ is totally committed to His Church.  The question is…do we show the same commitment to a local body of Believers?
