Getting to know the God of the Bible is the most important thing any Christian could ever do.  It will give a Christian insight for daily living.  It will help a Christian endure trials and suffering.  It will give a Christian a greater capacity to worship and praise God.  The only way to have a complete understanding of God’s attributes is to study the Bible.  Nature only reveals to men that God exists, He is very powerful, and He is creative (Romans 1:20).

There are great benefits to knowing the God of the Bible.  Christians who know the God of the Bible will have…

  1. Courage and Strength.  Daniel 11:32b--“…the people who know their God will display strength and take action.”  (NASB)  Daniel was an example of this.  He refused to obey the most powerful King of his day even though he knew it might cost him his life (Daniel 6).  How could he do that?  Because he had a complete trust in the God of the Bible.
  2. Peace in Difficult Circumstances.  2 Peter 1:2--“Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.”  (NIV)  Grace means God’s favor; His gracious care; His faithful assistance and help.  Peace means an inner tranquility; a quiet confidence; a stability and control in the face of difficult circumstances.  The better we know God, the more we learn to rest in Him.
  3. Wisdom for Daily Living.  Ephesians 1:17--Paul prays… “that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.”  (NASB)  Christians who know their God have a greater ability to apply spiritual truths to life.  That’s what wisdom is all about; the application of truth to life.
  4. A Fruitful Life.  Colossians 1:9-10--Paul says… “we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will…bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.”  (NASB)  The more we know Him, the more we will love Him and want to please Him by bearing fruit in His name.
  5. The Ability to Worship God.  Psalm 145:3--“Great is the Lord!  He is most worthy of praise! No one can measure His greatness.”  (NLT)  When you know the God of the Bible you are overwhelmed by His greatness and you express it with adoration, praise, and thanksgiving.

Do you want these benefits and more?  Then get to know the God of the Bible.  There is no substitute for it.
