Another election will be upon us soon and the number one issue in most elections is the economy.  Since 2008, America has been in a financial crisis.  There are five reasons for this crisis which have been happening over a long period of time.  We need to recognize these and heed the Bible’s warnings.

1.    Materialist Greed (1 Timothy 6:6-10a).  Paul reminds us… “True godliness with contentment is itself great wealth…but people who long to be rich…are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin…for the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.”

2.    Massive Debt (Proverbs 22:7; 28:22).  When government was redefined as the provider of all financial needs, this led to a sense of entitlement that permeates our country today, and the result is massive debt.  Prior to the 20th Century, most Americans believed in working hard and didn’t believe anyone owed them a living.  They just wanted equal opportunity.

·        Proverbs 22:7—“Just as the rich rule the poor, so the borrower is servant to the lender.”

·        Proverbs 28:22—“Greedy people try to get rich quick, but don’t realize they’re headed for poverty.”

At the close of 2014, we are looking at a massive debt (just budget items) of nearly 18 trillion dollars and growing by the hour.

3.    Panic and Crisis (1 Timothy 6:10b).  People have many sorrows when their greed or sense of entitlement lead to a massive debt which cannot sustained.

4.    Government Takeover.  The first thing that happens is that the Word of God (The Bible) is removed more and more from a country.  Then when panic and crisis hit, the power elite sets the standards and make decisions to take over and regulate more in our lives and businesses.

5.    Loss of Liberty.  Our rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness given to us by God will eventually disappear.
